Nissan Leaf marks first birthday with ‘singing’ TV ad

It’s hard to imagine, but a year ago there were no plug-in electric cars from major makers. That’s why Nissan is offering up a TV ad to celebrate the one-year “birthday” of the Nissan Leaf.

Nissan thinks it could sell upwards of 10,000 of the electrics in the U.S. this year.

To celebrate the impact that such an accomplishment might have on the planet, Nissan is introducing the commercial with “surprisingly adorable electrical sockets” that serenade the Leaf.

Nissan also integrates its social marketing into the ad for the first time, urging viewers to go to the #LEAFbday hashtag on Twitter.

The Leaf is an all-electric car, lacking the backup gas engine of the Chevrolet Volt. But it costs about $6,000 less than a Volt and can run about 80 miles before it needs to be recharged.
